Wedding Photography Policy at Lambert Castle
Outdoor / Exterior Photographs
Lambert Castle is situated inside Garret Mountain Reservation, a public park owned and operated by the County of Passaic. As such, no permit or fee is required to take outdoor photographs when the park is open to the public. However, for groups of 10 or more, we do encourage that you apply for a permit to insure that there are no conflicts. The exterior of Lambert Castle includes all the grounds as well as the building's exterior features: staircase from parking lot; plaza and fountain; front and rear porticos; wrap-around walkway of the turret's exterior; front terrace and stairs; and stone wall with views of the Manhattan skyline. The park is open 365 days-a-year from sunrise to sunset. Please be advised that changing rooms are not available at Lambert Castle. Lambert Castle is a popular location for wedding, engagement, prom and birthday photographs, so please be aware that your group may not be the only group using our grounds (this is especially true May-August). Please be courteous and respectful to other parties. There are also times when Castle grounds may not be available due to a Historical Society sponsored event or a rental. All events are listed on our Calendar of Events page. Please consult this when making your plans. If Lambert Castle's grounds are busy, you may also consider Lambert Tower located in Garret Mountain Reservation (entrance off Mountain Park Road).
Interior Photographs / Inside Lambert Castle Museum
A permit is required to take wedding photographs inside Lambert Castle Museum. Permits are not issued during times when the Museum is open to the general public. During the one hour period, the bridal party will have exclusive use of the interior of the Castle and a Museum staff member will be present. The permit fee is $250.00, payable at the time of applying for the permit. Applications may be made by writing a letter of request that specifies date, time, number in bridal party and daytime telephone number, or by telephone (973) 247-0085 ext. 201 or by email to the Museum at email@example.com. Payment may be made once the reservation is confirmed by the Museum. Only checks or money orders payable to the Passaic County Historical Society or P.C.H.S. are accepted by mail. Cash and credit card payments may be made at the Museum by prior arrangement. A written confirmation will be mailed to the applicant. Once a permit is issued, the permit fee becomes non-refundable.
Permits are issued for times when Lambert Castle is not open to the public. In other words, permits may not be issued Wednesday through Sunday from 1-4 PM, the Castle’s regular public visiting times. Permits may be issued Monday and Tuesday when the Castle is closed to the public, and before 1 PM and after 4 PM on Wednesday through Sunday. Please note: from Memorial Day to Labor Day the Museum extends its public visiting times earlier by one hour, opening at 12 Noon rather than the usual 1 PM. Thus, during the summer, on weekends, permits may be issued before 12 Noon and after 4 PM. Permits are not issued on the following holidays: New Year's Eve/Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve/Day.
Wedding photographs are limited to the members of the bridal party only. Wedding guests and family members who are not part of the bridal party will not be admitted. No dressing room facilities are available inside the Castle, and the exhibitions will not be available for viewing during the photograph session. Bridal parties are required to stay together as a group during the time they are in the Museum.
The areas inside Lambert Castle that have been designated for wedding photographs are all public areas including: main entrance hall, grand staircase, skylite atrium; and second floor gallery (balcony area surrounding the atrium). Photographs are not allowed in the drawing room, music room, breakfast room, or dining room.
Applicants for wedding photography permits are allowed one free complimentary admission to Lambert Castle, made only by prior arrangement, in order to view ahead of time the areas where photographs may be taken. Contact the Museum office at (973) 247-0085 to arrange a time to do this.

Outdoor wedding photographs, however, are still allowed on the grounds
of Lambert Castle Museum and are not affected by this event.
